As featured in the Australian Financial Review, we at Minotaur Capital are harnessing artificial intelligence to navigate the extreme single-stock volatility now defining ASX reporting season. As a global equities fund, we have built 23 AI agents that act like a team of analysts, covering about 1500 companies. When a company reports, the relevant AI agent combs through the earnings release, creates a short summary and sends it to our portfolio managers, Thomas Rice and Armina Rosenberg, via Slack.
We have also developed a "company relationship graph", which scans earnings releases for suppliers, customers and competitors, flagging read-throughs across other stocks.
"The idea is that often a result comes out which has implications for other stocks, and that may lead to us initiating a position that others might miss," Rice said.
More recently, we built a dedicated short-selling AI agent called Nemesis, designed to capitalise on "bad news drift" — when a stock keeps selling off for weeks after a negative announcement.
"Part of the reason we developed Nemesis is that previously, we had to rely on coincidentally coming across these negative announcements," Rice said.
This blend of AI and disciplined portfolio management underpins our investment philosophy.
